A great story of the importance of partnerships in our mission.

When our Head Start teacher sat down with Ashley for her family conference in October, it was obvious what was important to her – her son! As Ashley was telling her family story, our Head Start teacher kept thinking about how resilient Ashley is. She has been through so much at a young age, and she was able to bounce back and figure out what she truly wanted for herself. She’s been working hard to make her dreams a reality. 

As the conference continued, Ashley and her son’s Head Start teacher got down to what was making it hard for Ashley to continue to grow and thrive. Transportation. Even though she has support from her sister, Ashley wanted to be self-sufficient and feel like she was providing for her own family. Our Head Start teacher completed a referral to Fix It Forward Ministry but let Ashley know that it could be a few months before there is a vehicle available. 

Just before the holidays, our Head Start Teacher got an email saying there was a car ready for Ashley! It’s obvious by the smile on Andre’s face how excited he is! Ashley had this to say, “We got the car, thank you so much, Andre is beyond happy!”

Instead of just being teachers, our #HeadStart team acts as family advocates. They truly sit down and listen to the goals and dreams a family has and helps them plan and make their dreams a reality!
