This nice Caravan went to a lady working with Churches United for the Homeless.
She moved here recently from the St. Cloud area, where she had been living for over a year. She relocated there from out of state with the hopes of having her extended family be a support for her as she maintained her sobriety. She soon discovered that this was not going to happen, as they were a trigger for her addictions, so she chose to leave that area and travel somewhere she didn’t know anyone to have a fresh start for her and her children.
Churches' shelter was the closest one for her to get to, so she rode a bus there in November last year. She wants to provide a good example for her children and has been clean from all substance use for nearly two years. She has used the local bus system as best she can with her five kids, but it becomes quite expensive since four of her children are school aged, and it costs for them to ride in addition to her own fare. She moved into housing on March 1, but her new apartment isn’t on a bus route, which makes accessing a way to get around even more difficult.
Having this vehicle would help her be able to support her children, get them involved in activities to keep them engaged in positive things, to keep them on a path for a healthy future.Being able to get around independently will help them integrate into the community, grow, and continue on her journey in sober living and raising her children on her own.
Thank you to the family that donated this very clean van and thanks to the Minnesota State Community and Technical College - M State Moorhead Auto students for making the repairs!
